New XSI training from 3DQuakers

Charbel Koueik and his site 3DQuakers have finally released some new training titles for XSI. The first one is called Technical Director Training, Vol 1 and it is mostly a scripting tutorial focusing on using Expressions, Scripted Operators and even Plugin development. Another very important topic is the comprehension and use of vectors which I think is a must to understand for anyone striving to become a technical director.

The second one is called Technical Director Training, Vol 2 (what a surprise! ) in which he covers the development of a spring dynamo plugin.

I haven’t had the chance to buy them yet but I just can’t wait to get my hands on these tutorials. I have bought 3 of his tutorials for XSI: RiggingPro for XSI, Scripting 101 and Automatic Rigging for XSI and they were some of the best training DVDs I ever bought. Charbel Koueik has a very good command of what he teaches and it is obvious that it comes through experience, but the best thing about his tutorials is that although he goes through all the basics, he doesn’t waste time going into every newbie detail that can quickly become boring.

I have noticed that most of the CG tutorials available on the market have a tendency to go through every little button and detail and I sometimes catch myself nodding away at my desk. I’m sure it’s very useful for absolute beginners but if you’ve been doiing 3D for more than 6 months it quickly becomes a pain.

Charbel Koueik avoids that! His tutorials are more targeted to the intermediate user who is really trying to get to grips with the technical side of the software, scripting and using automation. He uses jscript mostly in these volumes but I’m certain that with his style of explaining things thoroughly you can port these scripts easily to any other scripting language. The only real problem is with the licensing system which will only let you use them on one computer; the one the license was purchased for. So you can forget about watching it on your laptop later at night and if you re-format your system some time in the future you will have to ask for new keys. Nevertheless with all the piracy going on in the internet who can blame him?

I highly recommend all 3DQuaker’s tutorials for XSI and I’m going to purchase them as soon as I can.
